I love it.

It's beautiful, every damn piece of it. All the vivid little details about the house, about Yamamoto's difficulties with everyday life and everyday people-- I felt like I was living in the place with him. Honestly I teared up probably half a dozen times just from the descriptions of the place alone. It's so heartbreaking to see him wanting this great old house with this lovely history behind it, as though he could inherit the years of laughter and tears with a family by proxy.

Brisket, too. (Her name makes me giggle.) I try to imagine this big dumb mutt galumphing around Yamamoto's house with him, wanting to roughhouse and play. Or sleeping all stretched out across his lap while he watches TV on the couch. I think Yamamoto's home just isn't complete without one dog (preferably large, friendly, goofy) and one cat (slender, Japanese, wears a suit like a motherfucking god).

What else? His friendships with those three. Apart from his father (and, well, one other person ~_^), the three people who'd know him best. In general, I think people spend a lot of time on the platonic 5927 and 8059 dynamics while neglecting the 8027 one, but honestly that one's my favorite. Tsuna saved his life, after all-- propped him up when he needed it most. And they understand each other so well. I feel like they'd grow apart a little, out of necessity, as Tsuna grew into his role as bossu, but even that's depicted here perfectly. Tsuna's got his own lower-case family, and Kyouko, but he still knows just how much to push, or pull, or let it be.

(Also, you managed to write a Gokudera that I didn't want to punch! And he even interacted with Yamamoto for an extended period of time! Well done you!)

And then there's Hibari.

God damn it, Hibari.

I swear, his idiosyncrasies will be the death of me one day. He makes my heart hurt. The way he greets Brisket meeting her the first time, the way he swipes Yamamoto's beer, the way he climbs the stairs like a cat. The way he fucks like a god damn beast-- hell yeah, you know I can't get enough of that.

And the bit where he says, "I always listen"? I admit it. Made me cry. I don't fucking care how ridiculous that is, it's just perfect. Perfectly Hibari, perfectly them. The one perfect little line like a cherry on top of this fucking perfect fic banana sundae. That was a shitty simile, but you get the idea.

Yeah. There's a million other little things I loved about this-- Squalo! The garden! The kids!-- but if I don't stop myself now I will just ramble on and on forever, and these comments probably have a character limit. Thank you so much for this, love, it's been a comfort between all the rushing around doing Grown Up Life Shit and the worrying about whether my head still works right. ^_^ I can guarantee I will be re-reading it every day for a few more days, at least!
