Date: 29 July 2009 03:48 (UTC)KHR is... one of those hugely uneven stories that really provide a lot of places to hang fic on. It's not a really great story--it's got plot holes and stupid all over the place where Amano changes ideas in the middle of things, and doesn't really seem to care about continuity too much.
But the characters are fascinating, and some of the undercurrents are just amazingly complex.
The thing is, the first 60 chapters or so are completely gag-oriented shounen crack. At chapter 62, things turn serious, and they stay that way, for the most part.
So... *considers* If you really want to read the series, maybe skim through those first sixty chapters really fast, so you get to know who the characters are, and then you can get to the good bits. Heck, the first 10-15 chapters ought to be good enough for those purposes, all things considered. You can always go back and reread the early stuff later, but honestly, it's not really worth it. (And just skip the chapters with Longchamp, because they're a waste of ink.)
