Equivalent Exchange

"Oh God," Hayato said, staring at his plate.

It stared back--literally, because some of those things still had their eyes.

"What?" Yamamoto said, indignantly. "This is good stuff!" He picked up one of the rolls and popped it into his mouth, and made a contented sound. "Besides, I let you drag me out to eat last time," he added, when he'd swallowed.

That was different; at least calamari wasn't recognizably tentacly. "Oh, God," Hayato said, partly terrified and partly just praying, and selected one of the rolls that didn't have recognizable eyes, fins, or tentacles.

They were going to have to find better things to trade off dates for, he decided, and popped the roll into his mouth.

Because Yamamoto was a bastard, he waited until after Hayato had started chewing to warn him about the wasabi.
